Short blurb: “Sveta Solntseva is an INIA research fellow and PhD student at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Sveta’s research focuses on intersex representations and subjectivities and she is currently looking for England-based intersex people and activists to take part in 60-90min online interviews. Through the interviews, Sveta would like to explore how intersex people and allied activists view the existing representations of intersex in England, how those personally or collectively affect local intersex people or communities, and how they think their individual life stories reflect on these representations. Additionally, Sveta is interested to learn more about emerging activist-produced representations created within the UK context, such as fiction and non-fiction books, films, comics, photography, theatre plays, etc., and authors’ agentic processes and stories behind those projects.”

He was also supporting as UEA local representative with the UK reproducibility network (UKRN, a peer-led consortium for world-leading research) at the University of East Anglia. Only Love Matters is the winner of Public Engagement Awards 2022 of University of East Anglia.
“It’s no wonder that the panel were all staggered by the work undertaken – it gave them goosebumps! – and, for that, Dr Qureshi was awarded special recognition.

A talk about an undergraduate dissertation “A Visual History of the Evolution and Marginalisation of Hijras and the Third Gender in India”. Dated 24th Feb 2022.
“My undergraduate dissertation looked at a visual history of the Hijra community and gender non-conformity in the Indian subcontinent. It traced gender non-conformity back 2800 years ago in the Rigveda. I looked at how the community changed from pre-colonial to “British India”. I used cultural and artistic representations of gender non-conformity to track this change. My dissertation received 83% (first class honours). As part of my research for my dissertation I reached out to Kamran for some guidance. Kamran is an important scholar in the area of South Asian intersex people.” Shahrazad Hand, Cardiff University
