The study closely examines Pakistan’s Transgender (Intersex) Act of 2018 in comparison with United Nations Human Rights’ 2016 recommendations for the member states, in relation to media. It analyses 50 international media reports including (e.g., United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland, Netherlands, Italy, Qatar, India and Pakistan), broadcasted and published in print, online, and on TV, between 2016-2019 including CNN International, BBC News, The Guardian, Reuters, Al Jazeera English, Voice of America – VOA, Human Rights Watch, University of Oxford, University of Houston, NDTV, Dawn News, PTV Network, Hum TV Network, ARY NEWS, Geo News English, Express Tribune, and UN Women Asia and the Pacific. It examines how media has played its role in educating what intersex is and raising awareness about intersex issues such as non-consensual childhood surgeries, violation of human rights, root causes and suggesting solutions.
