Fictsearch: What If Cinema Could Be a Research Method?

Dr Kamran Qureshi has published a new article, Fictsearch: What If Cinema Could Be a Research Method?, as part of Palgrave Macmillan’s Humanities campaign, an initiative that showcases the relevance and impact of humanities research in contemporary society.

The article introduces the Fictsearch framework developed in his book Fiction Feature Filmmaking and examines how filmmaking can operate not only as an artistic practice but also as a research methodology. It explores the potential of cinema to generate knowledge, investigate complex questions, and contribute to scholarly inquiry through creative practice.

It was a fantastic opportunity to pull back the curtain for the next generation of media professionals. We covered the realities of breaking into the UK film industry, discussing career trajectories, the nuances of work culture, and the current landscape. Beyond the logistics, it was vital to share personal stories and lessons learned along the way.

Thanks to the Moderator: Professor Shakuntala Banaji, panelists: Naveed Kabir HBO, Nicoletta Sbordone ITV, Organising team: Agathe Germain, Luana Moreno, Marine Audouin and LSE Media & Communications Society for having me.
To the students: best of luck and looking forward to seeing your names in the credits soon.
